Congratulations To Our Incoming Officers

Thank you to all who participated and voted for the 2023-24 year incoming officers. Below are our incoming officers and their positions.

Steven Loeffler, PGK, FDD
-Grand Knight

Fr. Michael J. McGivney, our founder, and the early officers of our Order, understood the dual
meaning of “charity” as love of our neighbor and love of God, and the importance of putting that
love into charitable action. This lesson of charity is so important to each member, and to us as
Catholics, that the true meaning of charity is the focus of the Admission Degree.

In the Formation Degree, the strength of Unity in fostering a greater practice of charity is
revealed and demonstrated through a simple yet powerful example. Both the lesson of Charity
and the strength of Unity are given additional meaning in the Knighthood Degree. It is in the
Knighthood Degree that we are reminded that all are united through the fraternity of the
Eucharist as sons of God and in His love for us.

In the Patriotic Degree, the role of our respective nations in shaping the character of its citizens is
used to illustrate the importance of faith and charitable love in our development. “The true test
of civilization,” declared American essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson in 1870, “is not its census,
nor its cities, nor its crops – no, but the kind of man the country turns out.” Likewise, a true test
for our fraternal Catholic Order is the faithfulness and charitable action that our members
incorporate into their daily lives.

Thus, following is “The Installation of Council Officers.” It stands as an annual reminder to
council officers of their duty to shape and build the character of their members in the love of
neighbor and the love of God by offering and conducting charitable programs, which strengthens
our parishes and builds up the Domestic Church. The life, health and strength of the council is
dependent upon the actions of Catholic fraternal leaders taking action and working together.

June 16, 2023 Calls for Prayer

Dear Brother Knight, On Friday, June 16, Catholics around the world will celebrate God’s love for us on the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is a day to honor Christ’s humble gift of his very self, offered out of deep and abiding love for all of humanity.

Friday June 16, 2023, however, is also the day the Los Angeles Dodgers professional baseball team has chosen to celebrate a group of men who masquerade as Catholic nuns and mock the Virgin Mary, consecrated women, and Jesus Christ himself, through their shocking displays and vulgar behavior.

As noted by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), the decision of the Dodgers is not just offensive and painful to Christians everywhere; it is blasphemy.”

In response, the USCCB has called on Catholics to pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 16th as an act of reparation for the blasphemies against our Lord we see in our culture today.”

The Knights of Columbus urges its members to respond to our bishops’ call and stand for respect, decency, and our Catholic faith. Through prayer and by making reparation, we’ll draw ever closer to Christ’s Sacred Heart, which Pope Francis has said is the source of love and peace.”

Litany To The Sacred Heart of Jesus

In 1899 Pope Leo XIII approved this Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for public use. This litany is actually a synthesis of several other litanies dating back to the 17th century. Father Croiset composed a litany in 1691 from which 17 invocations were used by Venerable Anne Madeleine Remuzat when she composed her litany in 1718 at Marseille. She joined an additional 10 invocations to those of Father Croiset, for a total of 27 invocations. Six more invocations written by Sister Madeleine Joly of Dijon in 1686 were added by the Sacred Congregation for Rites when it was approved for public use in 1899. This makes a total of 33 invocations, one for each year of life of our Lord Jesus Christ. A partial indulgence is attached to this litany.

Papal Anniversary Novena

Dear Brother Knights,

This month we mark the 10-year anniversary of the election of Pope Francis as Supreme Pastor of the Universal Church. Since the beginning of his pontificate, the constant request of our Holy Father has been, “pray for me.” In fact, each time I have met with him, his request to the Knights of Columbus has been the same: “Please, pray for me.”

It is, of course, our duty and our honor to do just this.

From Sunday, March 12, to the (transferred) Solemnity of St. Joseph on Monday, March 20, 2023, I ask all Knights of Columbus to offer additional prayers for Pope Francis. And I encourage that you ask your families and fellow parishioners to do the same.

Pope Francis was installed on the Solemnity of St. Joseph in 2013, and he has referenced St. Joseph time and again in his messages to the Order, beginning with his message to our Supreme Convention nearly 10 years ago, which said, “As protector of the Holy Family, the humble carpenter of Nazareth is a model of the manly virtues of quiet strength, integrity and fidelity which the Knights of Columbus have sought to preserve, cultivate and pass on to new generations of Catholic men.”

I am therefore encouraging a Novena to St. Joseph for the Holy Father. To that end, please find resources below for your use and distribution.

As Pope Francis marks 10 years of service as the successor of St. Peter, let’s give him the very best gift we have to offer: our prayers.

Fraternally,

Patrick E. Kelly
Supreme Knight
