Congratulations To Our Incoming Officers

Thank you to all who participated and voted for the 2023-24 year incoming officers. Below are our incoming officers and their positions.

Steven Loeffler, PGK, FDD
-Grand Knight

Fr. Michael J. McGivney, our founder, and the early officers of our Order, understood the dual
meaning of “charity” as love of our neighbor and love of God, and the importance of putting that
love into charitable action. This lesson of charity is so important to each member, and to us as
Catholics, that the true meaning of charity is the focus of the Admission Degree.

In the Formation Degree, the strength of Unity in fostering a greater practice of charity is
revealed and demonstrated through a simple yet powerful example. Both the lesson of Charity
and the strength of Unity are given additional meaning in the Knighthood Degree. It is in the
Knighthood Degree that we are reminded that all are united through the fraternity of the
Eucharist as sons of God and in His love for us.

In the Patriotic Degree, the role of our respective nations in shaping the character of its citizens is
used to illustrate the importance of faith and charitable love in our development. “The true test
of civilization,” declared American essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson in 1870, “is not its census,
nor its cities, nor its crops – no, but the kind of man the country turns out.” Likewise, a true test
for our fraternal Catholic Order is the faithfulness and charitable action that our members
incorporate into their daily lives.

Thus, following is “The Installation of Council Officers.” It stands as an annual reminder to
council officers of their duty to shape and build the character of their members in the love of
neighbor and the love of God by offering and conducting charitable programs, which strengthens
our parishes and builds up the Domestic Church. The life, health and strength of the council is
dependent upon the actions of Catholic fraternal leaders taking action and working together.

2023 Lent Friday Fish Fry Dinners

For each Friday in Lent between Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, we are hosting Lenten Dinners at Msgr Hughes Hall, St Mary Magdalen Church (25 N. Las Posas Rd).

We’ll have fish and chips on these Fridays: 2/24, 3/3, 3/10, 3/24, and 3/31

On Friday 3/17, since it is St Patrick’s Day we’ll have both a traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner and fish tacos.

Knights we need your help

For the Lenten Fridays we’ll need cooks, food runners, food servers, ticket collectors, membership recruiter, etc.

Please sign-up to help at our Lenten Friday Fish Frys. Remember we are a Catholic Fraternal Family organization, and so bring your wives and children as well.

This is particularly the case if your kids need Service Hours.

(There will be a separate sign-up for St Paddy’s.)

When you volunteer, please wear your name badge and any KofC shirt/hat/apron that you may have. We have six Fridays to not only serve food, but to recruit new members! Always be mindful that those who are not Knights are getting their impression of the Order based on what they see us do and hear us say.

Papal Anniversary Novena

Dear Brother Knights,

This month we mark the 10-year anniversary of the election of Pope Francis as Supreme Pastor of the Universal Church. Since the beginning of his pontificate, the constant request of our Holy Father has been, “pray for me.” In fact, each time I have met with him, his request to the Knights of Columbus has been the same: “Please, pray for me.”

It is, of course, our duty and our honor to do just this.

From Sunday, March 12, to the (transferred) Solemnity of St. Joseph on Monday, March 20, 2023, I ask all Knights of Columbus to offer additional prayers for Pope Francis. And I encourage that you ask your families and fellow parishioners to do the same.

Pope Francis was installed on the Solemnity of St. Joseph in 2013, and he has referenced St. Joseph time and again in his messages to the Order, beginning with his message to our Supreme Convention nearly 10 years ago, which said, “As protector of the Holy Family, the humble carpenter of Nazareth is a model of the manly virtues of quiet strength, integrity and fidelity which the Knights of Columbus have sought to preserve, cultivate and pass on to new generations of Catholic men.”

I am therefore encouraging a Novena to St. Joseph for the Holy Father. To that end, please find resources below for your use and distribution.

As Pope Francis marks 10 years of service as the successor of St. Peter, let’s give him the very best gift we have to offer: our prayers.

Fraternally,

Patrick E. Kelly
Supreme Knight
